Dry Needling

Experience the benefits of dry needle treatment, a specialized technique offered by our trained and certified physiotherapists.

Dry needling, also known as trigger point therapy, is a non-invasive treatment that involves inserting thin needles into specific points within the muscle, known as trigger points. These trigger points can cause pain, tension, and restricted movement.

What is the dry needling in physiotherapy?

Dry needling is closely linked to the concept of myofascial trigger points. These are hyperirritable spots within a muscle that can cause pain and discomfort. While traditional trigger point therapy involves applying pressure to these points, dry needling takes a more direct approach.

By inserting a thin needle into the trigger point, dry needling can:

Relax the muscle: The needle stimulates the muscle fibers, helping to release tension and reduce pain.
Disperse knots: The needle can break up muscle knots, improving flexibility and range of motion.
Promote healing: By reducing pain and inflammation, dry needling can help the body's natural healing processes.

Which injuries can be treated through dry needling?

Dry needling treatments are always performed on muscles. The thin needle will go into a specific part in the muscle that’s dysfunctional. So any condition that is caused by a sore, tense muscle can potentially be treated with a dry-needling session:
Muscle soreness
Joint problems
Back pain due to tight or tense muscles
Over exercising

What are the main benefits of dry needling?

In many cases, dry needling relaxes your muscles and decreases pain almost immediately within 24 hours after treatment. The localised trauma to your muscles will benefit from an increased blood flow, as well as an increase in oxygen circulation.

The overall session is also very relaxing and can be done regularly within a space of 5-7 days apart for a total of 2 - 3 sessions, especially for people who have chronic pain such as back pain.

Who should avoid dry needling?
