Dry Needling

Dry needling therapy is a trigger point muscle stimulation technique used in physiotherapy by a trained and certified physiotherapist. Here is what you should know about our dry needling treatments.
Dry Needle

What is the dry needling in physiotherapy?

The concept of dry needling is closely related to myofascial trigger points. By pressing these specific trigger points, you can ease the pain of a sore muscle. Dry needling uses the same concept but instead of simply pressing on the trigger points, a very thin needle is inserted directly in the point.

The muscle receiving the needle is relaxed and the knots disappear briefly after the session, resulting in pain relief,  muscle healing and range of movement restoration.

Which injuries can be treated through dry needling?

Dry needling treatments are always performed on muscles. The thin needle will go into a specific part in the muscle that’s dysfunctional. So any condition that is caused by a sore, tense muscle can potentially be treated with a dry-needling session:
Muscle soreness
Joint problems
Back pain due to tight or tense muscles
Over exercising

What are the main benefits of dry needling?

In many cases, dry needling relaxes your muscles and decreases pain almost immediately within 24 hours after treatment. The localised trauma to your muscles will benefit from an increased blood flow, as well as an increase in oxygen circulation.

The overall session is also very relaxing and can be done regularly within a space of 5-7 days apart for a total of 2 - 3 sessions, especially for people who have chronic pain such as back pain.

Who should avoid dry needling?

Dry needling treatment is usually very safe. However, if you are currently having one of these conditions, you should talk to your doctor before booking a dry needling session:
You have hemophilia
You are pregnant
You have a cardio-vascular disease
You suffer from auto-immune diseases
You are needle-phobic
You have a senstive skin / skin conditions
